UDIO
Democratising the purchasing of green energy for all consumers.
University Brief
To utilise smart meter energy data to improve consumer experience by effectively addressing their needs.
The Challenge
Unstable energy costs, a desire for renewable energy, and a lack of trust in traditional energy suppliers have led us to rethink how we buy energy. We propose a P2P green energy trading network, empowering consumers who cannot produce their own renewable energy.
Key Skills
Finding a User-Centric Solution
At this early stage in the project, we dove into secondary research to find out how the energy system worked and more importantly what users wanted out of such a system as well as how we could engagingly display information.
This led us to use empathy mapping, persona creations and affinity diagrams to understand better who we were designing for.
KEY INSIGHTS
01 Control
There is a demand for more dynamic control over electricity providers in households that have inconsistent shifting routines.
03 Copycats
People’s energy choices are primarily influenced by their perception of what others are doing.
02 Environmentalism
Lack of money and appropriate housing acts as a barrier between environmentally conscious individuals and using renewable energy.
Creating Basic Wireframes
After establishing the key insights and a hierarchy of features I created a site map and then simple wireframes which I could test on users to establish potential hangups and areas of confusion.
Udio Vision Statement
After establishing the key insights and a hierarchy of fUdio is a smart app that provides access to renewable energy through a peer-to-peer trading platform. Udio is for medium-income environmentally conscious adults who lack trust with current systems and want to have more control over their access to electricity but lack the ability to produce their own renewable energy. It provides a flexible and easy-to-understand platform to access green energy.
KEY FEATURES
Community Buying
The app allows you to buy energy from members of the community to actively choose from whom and where your energy comes from, and at what cost.
Demand Pre-Sets
The app allows you to set several pre-sets which are built up of different energy suppliers. This allows you to change your supplier when energy demand shifts.
Grid Feedback
The app provides feedback on your community grid, with the ability to see how you are making a difference and options to invest back into your community through green projects.
